BIOL 350 Solid and Hazardous Wastes

An examination of the public health, environmental, economic, and materials conservation aspects of solid wastes management; amounts and sources of solid wastes, waste reduction and recycling, methods of storage, transportation and disposal, integrated waste management, identification of present problems and future needs. Characterization of hazardous wastes and introduction to pertinent federal and state regulations. Description of management options at pre-generation, pre-release and post-release stages. Prerequisites: BIOL 150/BIOL 150L - General Biology I/Lab and BIOL 305 - General Microbiology and Lab and ENGL 120 - College Composition II or ENGL 121H - Honors Composition II. This course is part of the university's Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines program. Fall, odd years.
