SEED 490K Methods of Teaching Secondary Communication

This course presents students with approaches to designing and teaching communication courses in middle and high schools. Through readings, activities, and field experiences, students will explore theories and methodologies for teaching middle and high school students topics such as interpersonal and group communication, public speaking, oral interpretation and performance, forensics (including competitive speech and debate), and multimedia communication, including composing and reading oral, visual, and multimedia texts. A focus will be on development and assessment of secondary students' communication skills and their achievement of content standards for speaking and listening. Prerequisite: Admission to Teacher Education. Co-requisites:SEED 398B - Secondary Education Methods Block Practicum I or SEED 398C - Secondary Education Methods Block Practicum II. Fall, even years
