EMS 303 EMS Role in Public Health & Emergency Management
This course examines the critical role that Emergency Medical Services plays within public health and emergency management systems at the local, regional, and national levels. Students explore how EMS contributes to disease surveillance, prevention initiatives, disaster preparedness, emergency response, and community resilience. The course emphasizes the integration of EMS with public health agencies, emergency management structures, healthcare coalitions, and community partners. Topics include population health, epidemiology basics, emergency operations, incident command, hazard mitigation, continuity of operations, and the coordination required for large scale incidents and public health emergencies.
