EMS 401 Critical Care Paramedicine
This course provides an advanced, in-depth study of critical care transport medicine for paramedics seeking to function in high acuity ground and air medical environments. The course prepares students for the knowledge, skills, and decision making required for the Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP C) and Certified Flight Paramedic (FP C) examinations administered by the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC). Students examine the pathophysiology, assessment, and management of complex medical and trauma patients, with emphasis on ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, pharmacology, advanced procedures, neonatal and pediatric critical care, and specialty transport operations. The course includes extensive case-based learning, scenario work, and integration of evidence based critical care concepts used in flight and ground critical care teams. This course includes a clinical rotation component.
