FIRE 274 Firefighter Functional Fitness

This course introduces students to the foundational components of firefighter functional fitness and long-term wellness. Students will participate in structured physical training, learn safe and effective movement patterns, and explore nutrition, recovery, hydration, stress management, and occupational wellness practice. Emphasis is placed on building sustainable habits that prepare students for the physical demands of fire academy training and a lifelong career in the fire service. Students will track their progress, engage in guided workouts, and complete wellness-focused written reflections. This course may be repeated for credit as student schedules allow. Student-athletes may apply existing team-scheduled workouts toward course requirements with documentation and instructor approval.
