FIRE 497 Fire Science Internship/Externship

This course provides bachelor’s-level fire science students with supervised, structured, on-the-job experience within an operational fire department. Students will shadow a company officer, participate in daily routines, observe and support emergency operations as permitted, and engage in professional development activities. The externship provides an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world fire service operations, leadership, administration, training methods, and departmental culture. Company officers and agency supervisors will evaluate student performance.
