PSYC 370H Abnormal Psychology (Honors)

This class is designed to combine the disciplines of biopsychology and behavioral psychology in understanding the characteristics and mechanisms underlying the major classes of psychotherapeutic drugs and drugs of abuse. This includes how drugs interact with the different receptor sites of the nervous system to mediate their different physiological and psychological effects. Topics such as basic neuroscience (structure and function of the nervous system, neural transmission, and neurotransmitter classes), pharmacology (pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, metabolic pathways of drugs) and psychology (mood, cognition, behavior, and inner states) will be introduced in order to describe and understand the behavioral and physiological effects of drugs. A strong interest of the basic sciences is strongly encouraged!!. Students taking the course for honors program will be responsible for enhanced credit to receive honors credit. Prerequisite: PSYC 111 - Introduction to Psychology. Fall, Spring even years only.
