EDUC 280 Education of Exceptional Learners

This course introduces both elementary and secondary education students to students being served under an IEP in school systems. Distinctive characteristics and special needs of learners in each of the major categories are addressed. Collaboration models for working with Special Education teachers are presented. Provisions of PL 94-142 and later amendments are also discussed. Students will investigate and select adaptations and modifications for different exceptionalities related to the subject area being learned and observe inclusive classrooms. Pre-requisite: Admission to Teacher Education or instructor permission. Co-requisite: EDUC 398D - Diversity and Exceptionalities Field Experience. Fall, Spring.
