NURS 261 Nursing and Special Populations
Nursing and Special Populations is a critical course designed for PN students that explores the unique nursing care requirements of diverse patient groups, including maternal/child, pediatric, geriatric, and psychiatric/mental health populations. This course provides an in-depth understanding of the physiological, developmental, and psychosocial factors that influence health and wellness across different life stages. Emphasis will be placed on family-centered care, effective communication strategies, and culturally competent practices to ensure holistic support for patients and their families. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and clinical scenarios, students will develop the skills necessary to provide compassionate, safe, and effective care to vulnerable populations. Prerequisite: NURS 241 - Intermediate Nursing Concepts I. Fall. (New Course Effective Spring 2026)
