FIRE 491 Senior Seminar in Fire Service Leadership

This senior-level seminar explores advanced leadership, management, and administrative practices within the modern fire and emergency services. Building on foundational knowledge from prior coursework, students will analyze real-world challenges faced by fire service leaders, including organizational culture, personnel management, strategic planning, budgeting, safety, ethics, and community relations. Using the latest edition of Fire and Emergency Services Administration as the primary text, students will evaluate leadership styles, develop decision-making strategies, and apply best practices to complex administrative and operational scenarios. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, discussion, problem-solving, and the development of a personal leadership philosophy to prepare students for supervisory and executive roles in the fire service.
